“The Art of Collecting”

EXHIBITION


The triennial is international with no geographical restrictions. It is open to both professionals and university students. The artist must hold the copyright to his or her own work, and the work may not have been created under an academic supervisor.

The exhibition will take place from 23.11.2012 through 3.02.2013 at the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design, Tallinn, Estonia.

JURY

Works for the exhibition will be selected by an international jury leaded by the curator of the exhibition. The selection will be chosen anonymously and will be based on submitted digital image material received by March 9th, 2012.

The jury will choose the prizes to be awarded from amongst the exhibited works prior to the exhibition's opening. The jury's selection is final.

AWARDS

The prize fund is 4000 euros.

A Grand Prix and two equal 2nd place prizes will be awarded.
The jury reserves the right to make changes in the awarding of prizes.
Prizes will be announced at the exhibition opening on 23 November 2012.

CATALOGUE

A catalogue of the triennial’s exhibitions and other activities will be published, of which every participant will receive a free copy.

A SEMINAR AND DAY OF ARTISTS' PRESENTATIONS
will take place on 23.11.2012. English will be the working language.

TERMS OF PARTICIPATION

PHASE I – submission of digital images for the competition.
DEADLINE: March 9, 2012

Works of applied art or design which have been created especially for and based on the theme "The Art of Collecting" or on the same subject during the last three years will be eligible for exhibition at the 6th Tallinn Applied Art Triennial.

1. Each author can submit a single piece or a series (within dimensions reaching a maximum of 3 metres in height and with a maximum area of 8 m2).

2. 1 to 3 digital images of the piece or series must be uploaded to the triennial webpage as a jpg file, 72dpi, 15x21 cm (with a maximum size of 2MB each).

We kindly ask that the images be submitted in digital form only.

3. The participation form must be completed in Estonian or English.

4. The artist may attach a concept, short description or explanation of the work. Maximum length is 550 characters (including spaces).

5. The artists will be notified of the decision of the jury by May 13, 2012.

6. The Triennial will not return sent digital image materials to the authors.

II PHASE – for authors selected by the jury
DEADLINE June 13, 2012

1. The author will send a high resolution image of the work to be published in the catalogue (in tiff-format, 300 dpi, A5 size)

2. The author will also send a portrait image of him- or herself. (jpg, 300 dpi, maximum sizw A6)

3. The author will send a short biography (max. 1000 characters incl. spaces). You are welcome to include the address of your web page.

4. The delivery deadline for selected works to Tallinn is 22.10.2012 at the latest.

The work /series must be identical to the one presented by the author and selected by the jury.

5. Transportation of the works to Tallinn, as well as transportation insurance will be at the participant’s expense.

6. Works must be sent in a secure, well-protected packaging. The same package must also be useable for return delivery. If these requirements are not adhered to, the organisers reserve the right to deliver a bill for packaging materials.

7. The expense of returning the works will be covered by the organisers.

8. Works will be returned to their authors by 1.04.2013 at the latest.

9. The author will allow organisers of the exhibition to use images of the work in the catalogue and in the media to advertise the event.

COMMENTS

1. Materials that arrive after the announced deadlines will be disqualified. (Materials sent via regular mail must be postmarked the day of the deadline.)

2. Works that are sent to the exhibition will not be returned before 1.04.2013.

3. The works will be displayed by a professional exhibition designer and the Triennial Society.

4. The exhibition halls have security guards and a cctv-security (video) system. If any damage is caused to the artwork under these terms, the Triennial Society will take the responsibility of covering costs according to the insurance value of the piece as specified by the artist on the application form. The Triennial will not enter into additional insurance contracts. The author has the right to enter into additional insurance contracts at their own expense to cover works of art.

5. Organisers of the triennial reserve the right to photograph and publish selected works for the sake of documentation and advertising triennial events.
